Hobomock Hoedowners History

60 years ago the Hobomock Hoedowners were formed by approximately 25 enthusiastic square dancers in an old fire station on High Street in Pembroke Massachusetts. Over the years we have been located in Pembroke, Marshfield, back to Pembroke, Abington and now at the Former First Congregational Church of Rockland. We have had excellent club callers in Howie Sherman, Dick Pells, Bucky Donaher, Paul Letournueau and now Steve Park with regular guest caller Jim Schell. We are extremely fortunate to have our own Harriett Clarke as our cuer each week.
Over the years we have had several club outfits used for banner raids or demonstration events. Our current outfit is a navy skirt, white blouse and red accessories for the girls and navy pants, white shirt and red ties for the men.
The Hobomock Hoedowners are a round and square dance club that meets every Wednesday night 7:30 to 10:00 pm with a break in the summer. Our club is open to all - singles and couples, round or square dancers. We currently have a class that will graduate in the spring.
We have two slogans to live by -
"Square dancing is friendship set to music" and "Strangers are square dancers we have yet to meet".
